Ionic Appflow Migration Services

Ionic Appflow is going away. Ionic stopped selling Appflow and every other commercial product in February 2025, and existing customers keep access only through December 31, 2027. After that date there are no more cloud native builds, no more Live Updates (formerly Ionic Deploy), and no more automated store submissions from Appflow.

If your app depends on Appflow today, the question is not whether to migrate but when — and the teams that wait until late 2027 will be competing for the same few specialists at the same time.

What breaks if you wait

  • Build pipelines stop. Your iOS and Android binaries are produced by Appflow's build farm. When it shuts down, the next urgent hotfix has no way to become an .ipa or .aab.
  • Live updates stop, and then white-screen. Apps that pull web assets from Appflow keep their last downloaded bundle, but a misconfigured or never-completed update can leave users on a blank screen with no way to push a fix.
  • Institutional knowledge leaks. Signing certificates, provisioning profiles, and environment variables live in Appflow today. Every month they stay there, fewer people on your team remember how they were set up.

Our migration path

We have run this migration for Ionic apps on Angular, React, and Vue, on Capacitor 4 through 8. The shape is always the same:

  1. Appflow exposure audit. We inventory your apps, channels, build configurations, signing assets, environments, and the @ionic/appflow / cordova-plugin-ionic usage in code. You get a written report of exactly what depends on Appflow and the order to unwind it.
  2. Live updates → Capgo or Capawesome Cloud. Both are actively maintained, Capacitor-native, and support channels, staged rollouts, and update signing. We recommend one based on your compliance needs (self-hosting, data residency) and integrate it behind a feature flag so the old and new updaters can coexist during the parallel run.
  3. Native builds → GitHub Actions, Codemagic, or Bitrise. Reproducible iOS and Android builds from your own repository, with signing handled by fastlane match or your CI provider's secret store.
  4. Store submission → fastlane. upload_to_testflight and upload_to_play_store replace Appflow's deploy-to-store step, with internal test tracks wired to pull requests.
  5. Parallel run and cutover. One or two releases ship through both pipelines. When the new path has produced a store-approved build and a successful live update, we decommission Appflow and rotate any credentials that lived there.

Typical engagements run two to six weeks depending on the number of apps and how much of the pipeline was hand-configured.
